Tourist Festival Events

We have several events scheduled as if just viewing the amazing tourists wasn't enough. These activities are for everyone to participate, not just locals.

The Photo Contest
The photo contest is for the best photo in one of several very specific categories. The categories are:

  • Goats on the roof
  • Rathtrevor at low tide
  • Those alpacas on Qualicum Beach
  • Mom standing beside that big tree at Cathedral Grove
  • Grandpa's sunburn
  • A deer on the side of the road (only if you create a traffic hazard while stopping for the photo)
  • Your thumb
  • A purple sea star

Motorhome Crawl

This event lasts for the entire summer. It happens in all locations on the Island but Highway 4 from Qualicum Beach to the West Coast is the best place to participate. The winner of the contest is the Tourist who can get the most cars lined up behind it at the slowest speed. We are considering a new category for 2 rented motorhomes side by side on 2 lane sections of Highway 19.

Lighting of the Oil Slick

Every evening at sundown on beaches all over the Island there is a ceremony to celebrate the masses of tourists who spent the day lying on the beach in the sun covered with oil to prevent the sunlight from getting on them. As the sun sets, the oil slick in the water is set alight with spectacular results.

Souvenir Sales Contest

This contest is for residents only. The idea is to sell "authentic" local souvenirs for the highest price possible. The only rule is that the items being sold must be made in China.
