Web Site Design is what you see when you visit a web page. It is important because the design of a web site is what will attract your customers and cause them to want to stay and use your web site. The design should be clean, uncluttered, easy to use and pleasing to the eye. Your visitors will want to be able to find what they are looking for right away.

It's easy to get carried away with all the possibilities available for web site design. So much so that it's possible to lose sight of the purpuse of the web site.

So how do you design your web page? Reasearch has shown that people visiting web sites have predictable patterns and expectations. They will scan a web page in the same order.

2. Just under Top Left
3. Top Middle
4. Center Page
5. Bottom Center Page
6. Bottom Left
7. Right Side from Bottom to Top

Web site visitors also expect to find things in certain areas of a page

1. Logo - Top Left
2. Menu - Left Side (second choice Center Under Logo)
3. Contact Information - Top Right then Bottom Center
4. Headline - Top Center
5. Page Copy - Center Page

It's not entirely against the rules to design your page in some other manner. Just expect your customers to have a little more trouble finding things if they're not where they expect them.
